A Portland Wedding Photographer

Meet Your Photographer!

Hi there. I’m a full-time Portland wedding photographer, available for weddings anywhere in the PNW, west coast. Actually, anywhere really!

Experience

With more than a dozen years of experience shooting 40+ weddings a year, I approach each wedding with a light heart, an open mind and a storyteller’s eye. To me, weddings involve the essential matters of the heart. Telling these love stories is my passion. And it’s the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done.

Beautiful Photography

And so I hope you’ll take a good look at my wedding photographs and videos. If it’s the kind of photography you’d be proud to have of your wedding, let’s talk! I’m always happy to exchange emails or chat on the phone.  Or we can sit down for a meeting in person at your convenience.

About half the weddings I shoot are booked a year or more in advance.  And the other half are often on very short notice. So even if your wedding is tomorrow — hit me up! My bags are packed, and the car is gassed up!

Thanks,
Paul Grupp

There is no challenge I find more rewarding than walking into a getting ready room, church, or wedding venue, determined to find beautiful, funny, emotional human moments in your day’s activities. And then capture them on my video cameras!

Not Just a Moving Picture Scrapbook!

My wedding videos are not just a moving picture version of a still photographer’s photo album. I create a mini-documentary for you. I learn something from every couple, your family and friends. And then I capture it on a video you’ll love watching over and over again.

Choosing a Photographer

The three most important considerations

You have to like their work.

Not just their portfolio with a few random pictures from several different weddings. Ask to see some complete weddings, and see if you like the way the photographer handles everything — getting ready, all the little details, the ceremony, the formal bridal party and family photos, the romantic photos of just the two of you, the photojournalistic capturing of special moments and the day’s events. Basically, if you can say, “I’d be happy if my wedding photos look like the ones this photographer takes,” chances are you’ve found your photographer!

The price has to be right.

Ideally you have a budget in mind, and your photographer should be willing to work within you to stay within that budget.  You’re better off booking an experienced professional who will help you identify ways to save time and money on the photography (if you need to) rather than hiring somebody just because they’re cheap and will hang around for 16 hours.

You have to like the photographer enough to spend your wedding day with them.

Every photographer has a personality and style. If a photographer has a very strong personality, that can be great – if it’s one you like. Not so much if it isn’t! I’m pretty good at reading people and do my very best to conduct myself in a way you’ll find pleasing.

About my photographic “style”

My working style on the day is to be as unobtrusive as possible when I’m capturing events as they unfold.  And to be “in charge” during the group photography, keeping it fun and efficient. I’m generally not a big fan of faking setups and events. My photos reflect what a great couple you are, rather than what a crafty smart photographer I am. Be confident in your love and affection for each other — I will capture that beautifully!

Keeping it real

It’s always my goal to capture the real emotions and feelings of your day. For most couples, there will be some serious moments of promises and commitment. The sharing of deep feelings.

And then there will be fun times, joy and happiness! I capture it all! With sensitivity, a sense of humor when appropriate, and a touch of whimsy.

That storytelling skill is combined with respect for your time and attention span.  My informal approach to the posed portraits and group photos allows you relive your wedding day through your photographs. You will find that as you travel the seasons of your life together, your wedding photos will always take you back to a beautiful start.

No Discrimination!

I happily serve ALL clients who choose to book my services. I prefer to focus on the things that unite us all as human beings, rather than those which divide us. You can expect me to treat you, your guests and family members with dignity and respect whether we have a lot in common, or come from very different backgrounds.

Specifically Speaking

I do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, creed, religion, political affiliation, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, veteran status, employment, or disability. You are a human being making a loving public commitment to your love of a lifetime — that’s good enough for me!
